So you’ve made your appointment, sat through the treatment, and come through ready to face the day with a fresh new face. What follows after? Botox doesn’t require any recovery time, so you can get right back to your regular day-to-day life — with a few small caveats. Follow these easy instructions so that you can make your post-Botox experience as smooth and successful as possible.
1. Keep your hands off
Try not to touch the injection site on your face for at least six hours, ideally 24 following the procedure. This prevents the product from moving to unintended muscles. It might be tempting to massage or rub the area to relieve minor discomfort, but remember that your skin needs time to heal from the treatment. After 24 hours have gone by, you’re free to gently cleanse your face with soap and water.
2. Get plenty of R&R
For best results, avoid lying horizontally for about four hours after treatment. This allows Botox a good amount of time to settle into your muscles. It’s also recommended to sleep on your back for several days after the day of the procedure. And no exercise either for at least a couple of days after the treatment, as any heavy physical activity could disrupt the Botox from settling properly into your body.
3. Say no to drugs
Doctors recommend not consuming alcohol for at least one day after your Botox procedure to avoid any complications. Be sure to also stay clear of certain medications like aspirin, and anything in the painkiller or blood thinner family. Ask your doctor for further clarification and guidance.
4. Make your face a clean slate
Avoid using face masks, chemical peels, and other facial treatments that can react poorly with Botox for at least 24 hours.
5. Stay indoors and in town
Excessive heat exposure combined with Botox can have ill effects, so keep the sunbathing or heat lamp usage to after any redness or swelling has run its course. Post-Botox is not the time for a quick jaunt abroad either – you’ll want to stay within reach of your Botox provider should any unforeseen issues arise. And remember to always seek advice from certified specialists like the team from New You Laser Center to avoid any problems with the treatment.
